Matt Chumchal, professor and director of the TCU Pre-Health Professions Institute, and Laura Luque, instructor II, published an article on study abroad experiences for pre-health students in the 2020 edition of Apply Magazine. The article is entitled “Going Abroad: How Pre-Health Students Can Make the Most Of Their International Experience.”
The topics covered in the piece include different types of international experiences, clinical and service opportunities while abroad, improving social skills and cultural competence, how to plan a trip and how to get the most out of studying abroad. The article emphasizes the importance of developing an array of interpersonal skills, as well as explains how traveling to another country provides opportunities to grow in these areas. Several resources are included to help students plan their course schedule, choose an ethical health-related experience, and read about policies related to their international experience.
Apply Magazine is published by the Texas Health Education Service to help medical, dental and veterinary school applicants become more competitive by understanding the application process on a deeper level.
