Solving Mysteries through Chemistry

by: Madison Benveniste, CSE communications intern

Members of the student chapter of the American Chemical Society (TCU Chemistry Club) at Texas Christian University are teaming up with the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History to celebrate Chemistry Connections: Solving Mysteries through Chemistry from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. daily Oct. 15 and 18-21. They will join student chemists from across North Texas to lead and demonstrate science activities in the Museum’s Innovations Studios. All Innovations Studios activities are included with general admission.

This year’s theme for National Chemistry Week is “Solving Mysteries through Chemistry.” During the event, guests will be presented with mysteries that can be solved through the use of chemistry.

Some of the experiences you can expect during Chemistry Connections include:

  • Be a dye detective and learn how to separate inks into recognizable patterns.
  • Sniff out hidden scents and learn about diffusion
  • Write mysterious messages on polymers and expose them to lots and lots of heat to see surprising results.
  • Experiment with writing secret messages…. and learn about some fascinating reactions
  • Be a fruit juice sleuth to determine which beverages actual contain fruit juice and explore acid base reactions
  • Learn all about reactions from our talented museum staff

Chemistry Connection activities are included in Museum exhibit admission. Learn more.
