Watt Matthews will join the College of Science & Engineering External Advisory Board this fall. Mr. Matthews is currently a vice president of investments at the Legett Foundation and the Kickapoo Springs Foundation. He is the treasurer and a board member of Matthews Land and Cattle Company, a family corporation that manages Lambshead Ranch in Albany, Texas. He is also involved in management of a ranch in the Panhandle near Clarendon. Since July 2020, he has served on the investment committee of First Financial Trust and Asset Management Company, an Abilene-based wealth management firm. Mr. Matthews has also served on the board of the Texas Agricultural Land Trust, a San Antonio-based non-profit focused on conservation and reducing fragmentation of family-owned farms and ranches, since 2021.
From 2010 to 2020, Mr. Matthews worked in various roles from analyst to managing director at Main Street Capital Corporation, a Houston-based investment firm. At Main Street, he managed a portfolio of credit related assets and was involved in sourcing and underwriting high-yield corporate loans across a diverse set of industries. Mr. Matthews graduated in 2008 from the University of Texas with a BBA in Finance and graduated from the TCU Ranch Management Program in 2010.
“I enjoyed attending TCU Ranch Management and continue to benefit from the insights taught in both the classroom and field trips. I look forward to being an advocate for the program as a member of the CSE Advisory Board,” Mr. Matthews says.
Mr. Matthews comes from a long history of ranching. He spent his early years living on the Matthews Ranch in Clarendon, relocating to Amarillo when he was old enough to begin school. Currently Mr. Matthews, his wife Elizabeth, and their three childrenlive in San Antonio.
