In 26th Year, Nollet to Collaborate Internationally via Endowed Mathematics Professorship

Scott R. Nollet is the new holder of the John William and Helen Stubbs Potter Professorship in Mathematics. The professorship was established in 1995 by Deedie Potter Rose and Rusty Rose.

Nollet’s research focuses on algebraic geometry, and his scholarship deepens understanding of fundamental questions in pure mathematics. Over more than two decades at TCU, Nollet has combined an active research program with a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

“I am deeply honored to become the John William and Helen Stubbs Potter Professor in the TCU math department, especially since I consider the previous three Potter professors to be friends,” Nollet said. “I plan to put the Potter research funds to good use in bringing my collaborators to TCU and traveling to work with my co-authors, as I am currently working on several projects with associates in California and Italy. I also expect to use those funds to support the research of my colleagues in the TCU math department.”

Nollet earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and computer science from the University of Minnesota before completing his Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley, and joined the TCU faculty in 2000. He received a U.S. Patent for 3D motion-tracking software and, as an internationally recognized scholar, Nollet has published more than 30 papers in pure math journals, refereed more than 40 papers for math journals and written more than 450 reviews of mathematical articles in service. He continuously mentors doctoral students and, as a chess expert, ran the chess club at TCU for 10 years.
