The TCU Department of Mathematics does more than just solve equations and plug in numbers - faculty members seek to solve real-world problems, beginning with research.

During the changing times of COVID-19, the College of Science & Engineering has found ways to contribute to the local community and to help ensure healthcare workers’ safety.

What originated as a group of five aspiring scientists referred to as, “TCU Chemistry Club,” is now a community outreach group, bringing science and a momentum of higher education to the Fort Worth-Dallas area for more than a decade.

The College of Science & Engineering donated spare supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as nitrile (exam) gloves, to local agencies – Moncrief Cancer Institute, Tarrant County Homeless Coalition, Careflite and Fort Worth Emergency Preparedness.

Dr. Britni Williams ‘12 (biology) is currently working as an emergency medicine resident. When news of COVID-19 originally broke, Williams recognized the importance of activities that people should do daily, including washing hands, covering sneezes, and getting a flu shot.

This year, one group of the computer science capstone course is working with the Mercy Clinic of Fort Worth to develop a software program to manage and track volunteer hours, making the process more efficient for the organization.
