The Jeffries lab publishes an article highlighting the impacts of various factors on immunotoxicity in fishes.
In collaboration with scientists from the North Carolina State University, US Environmental
Protection Agency, US Geological Survey and University of Saskatchewan, Rashidat Jimoh
(Biology MS ‘23), Catherine Wise (Neuroscience BS ‘23; Biology MS ‘25), and Dr. Marlo
Jeffries (Associate Professor and Chair of Biology) published an article titled “Fishy
factors: Recognizing biological variation and its implications for fish immuno(eco)toxicology
research” in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (v 44, p 872). The field of immunotoxicology studies the effects of chemicals on
immune system function and disease resistance, and data from such studies is critical
because it may be used in chemical safety assessments. The article touches on the
numerous sources of variation that can affect immunity and disease risk in fishes.
