TCU Ranch Management students observe bison

NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth joined TCU Ranch Management students at the Fort Worth Nature Center for an unusual hands-on learning experience: helping round up the center’s bison for their annual health checks. Nine bison were moved through the facility one at a time to receive preventive care, including parasite treatments and vaccinations.

The annual roundup gives students an opportunity to put lessons in animal management into practice while working with a species they may not encounter regularly.

“It teaches them a lot about animal behavior and how the animal responds to different pressure points. And then it also teaches them the uniqueness of managing bison through a facility,” said Lee Knox, holder of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Professorship in Ranch Management.
