Algebra Refresher Bootcamp
The TCU Algebra Refresher Bootcamp is a new pilot program designed for students enrolling in MATH 10273 (Applied Precalculus). The program was developed for students who want to improve their mathematical readiness, with the support of TCU Math Department faculty, and start their math career at TCU with more confidence.
TCU offers two Calculus tracks:
- Applied Precalculus (10273) and Applied Calculus (10283) which are primarily taken by students who plan to major in Business
- Precalculus with Trigonometry (10054) and Calculus I (10524) which are primarily taken by Math, Science, and Engineering majors
Please check with your academic advisor to see which track is needed for your degree plan.
Note: Students are not able to receive credit for both MATH 10283 and MATH 10524.
The TCU Algebra Refresher Bootcamp is designed for students who meet any of the following criteria:
- are enrolled, or plan to enroll, in MATH 10273 (Applied Precalculus) and want to refresh their algebra and precalculus foundations before the fall semester begins
- scored a 45 or below on the Calculus Placement Test and may benefit from additional practice and support to strengthen key math skills before beginning MATH 10273 (Applied Precalculus)
- did not achieve the required score on the Calculus Placement Test or do not otherwise meet the requirements to enroll in MATH 10283 (Applied Calculus)
- meet the prerequisites for MATH 10283 (Applied Calculus) but wish to enroll in MATH 10273 (Applied Precalculus) in order to review the essential algebra skills needed for Calculus at the university level.
The Algebra Refresher Bootcamp will use the ALEKS online learning platform and will be supplemented with weekly Zoom Help Sessions and additional support provided by TCU Math Instructors. The program will begin with an Initial Knowledge Check that identifies a student's current strengths and areas for review. ALEKS will then generate an individualized set of topics along with a timeline for each student to work through at their own pace. Students should aim to complete the program prior to the start of the fall semester.
The cost of the program is $25 which will be paid through the ALEKS system.
The Algebra Refresher Bootcamp will be offered from June 8, 2026, through August 7, 2026. Space is limited, so students are encouraged to sign up as early as possible!
- Enrollment will stay open throughout the duration of the bootcamp until all spots are filled.
- Note that since the online program is self-paced, students can start the program at any point during the bootcamp timeline and will receive a personalized schedule for completing the recommended content modules.
