Research Apprentices Program
Science and technology makes our lives better. We use it everyday. Science can be
cool. But what do you know about science? Do you know how science works? The United
States is a leader in scientific research. Would you like to participate in real scientific
research that can make a difference in tomorrow’s world in a university lab setting?
Our department offers high school students the chance to participate in journal-worthy
research projects through its Research Apprentices Program (RAP). The program targets
strong achievers who are high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.
- Hands-on research lab experience
- Improve your knowledge of science
- Potential to co-author research journal papers
- Potential to present at national and international scientific conferences
- Opportunity to compete and win local and national science competitions
- Significantly improve your resume and college application credentials
- Potential to win college scholarships
- Interest in science
- Curiosity
- Long-term commitment to research
- Readiness to learn new skills and improve your science education
- Ability to work in a team
Currently there are several professors in the TCU Department of Physics & Astronomy
who are inviting high school research apprentices to their laboratories: Dr. Sergei
V. Dzyuba (Biomolecular Chemistry), Dr. Kat Barger (Observational Astronomy), Dr.
Zygmunt (Karol) Gryczynski (Biophysics), Dr. Yuri M. Strzhemechny (Solid State Physics,
Properties of Nanomaterials), Dr. Anton Naumov (Biophysics, Nanotechnology) and Dr.
Hana M. Dobrovolny (Computational Biophysics).
