The Dean’s office has established a SERC fund to assist graduate students with various ad hoc needs. The fund is intended to provide opportunities to graduate students when other funding is not available or does not completely cover an expense related to their research or presentation thereof. The intent of the fund is not to supplant other funding sources, and it is not to tacitly discourage faculty from soliciting intramural and extramural funding.
Uses are limited to:
Requests should not exceed $2,000.
Applications will be solicited at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters each year. Preference will be given to first time applicants. Student may apply by completing and submitting the SERC Graduate Student Research Fund Application form to the Office of the Dean.
Should the needs of the student change such that expenditure deviate from those proposed, the student needs to contact the Assistant to the Dean. Such alterations should be minor and not change the overall intent of funding.
Funded students are expected to present research results associated with the funding request in the College’s Student Research Symposium no later than the year subsequent to the year of the grant. In addition, in the event they receive travel support to acquire methodological expertise, the funded student should arrange appropriate formal and/or informal mechanisms to transmit that expertise to faculty and other graduate students such that it becomes resident at TCU.
The costs will be split 50/50 between the Dean’s Office and departmental carryover unless departmental carryover drops below 50% of their annual budget (in which case the split will be 20/80 between Department and the Dean’s Office).
The Spring 2020 SERC Graduate Research Grants cover funding for academic year 2020-21 (Summer and Fall 2020 as well as Spring 2021).
