|Disentangling the Brain and Our Decision to Act
“How do you decide to speak?” asked Brenton Cooper, associate professor of psychology. Based on findings from previous scientific research, the brain’s active neurons prompt you to open your mouth and form words; however, the process of deciding to act becomes more complex when considering what happens in the seconds before, during and after the act. This is the big idea behind Cooper’s latest research project.

Two CSE alumni, Brent K. Blackburn ’82 and Hunter Enis ’59 ’63 (MA), received TCU Leadership Awards during the 2019 awards ceremony on April 26th.
|Nghi April Tran – Class of 2019
Nghi April Tran ’19 (biology) is among the first generation of her family to earn a college degree – preceded by her older brother and followed by her younger sister. After Tran’s sophomore year of high school, her parents moved her family from Vietnam to Houston, Texas.
|Department of Physics & Astronomy advances undergraduate research through Research Undergraduate Program
The Department of Physics & Astronomy’s Research Undergraduate (REU) program is one of the many ways that the department supports a variety of undergraduate students in their academic research pursuits. Through this unique program, current undergraduate students from any institution are able to collaborate on a “real world” research project with TCU faculty members, graduate students and other undergraduate students as well to make contacts in the academic community through a summer experience.
|Jaques Williams – Class of 2019
Jaques Williams was on a scooter with a broken foot when he first stepped onto campus. Or should I say rolled? Regardless, it was the immediate support he received from students and faculty that drew him to TCU, noting that the community on campus was unlike anything he had ever seen before. Now, four years later as a recent graduate, Williams is thankful for his time at TCU and credits a large part of his success to the school.
